The heart of the Mt. Hood corridor — golf, the Salmon River, and easy mountain access
No Fees. Lowest Price Guaranteed.
Welches is the hub of the Mt. Hood corridor — the Hoodland community where most visitors end up basing themselves, and for good reason. It has the best mix of everything: cabins tucked along the Salmon River, a real cluster of restaurants and coffee shops, a grocery store, and The Resort at the Mountain with its golf course and spa. You're close enough to the mountain for a quick lift day, but low enough in elevation that the drive home at night is almost always clear.
This is also where the Mount Hood Village area sits, so the cabin density is high and the choices are wide — from compact riverside getaways for two to big multi-bedroom lodges built for the whole family. Summer is golf, fishing the Salmon River, and trailheads minutes from your door; winter is a 30-minute run to the Skibowl and Timberline lifts, then back to the hot tub. It's the most convenient launch point in the corridor.
Book direct with Mt. Hood Basecamp and the savings are real: no service fees, no drip pricing at checkout, and the lowest price guaranteed — the same Welches cabins you'd find on the big platforms, for less.
Welches is about 30 minutes from the lifts at Mt. Hood Skibowl and Timberline via US-26, and roughly 45 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows on Highway 35. Its lower elevation usually means an easier evening drive back from the slopes than staying up at Government Camp.
Plenty. The Resort at the Mountain has golf and a spa, the Salmon River runs right through town for fishing and summer wading, and you're minutes from the Old Salmon River Trail and other Mt. Hood National Forest trailheads. There's also a solid lineup of local restaurants and coffee in the Hoodland area.
It's the one we most often recommend. Welches balances easy mountain access with restaurants, groceries, and a lower-elevation, easier winter drive — so you get the cabin-in-the-woods feel without being far from anything you need.
